For propagation and seedling purposes, compact fluorescent grow lights are the best available. They emit minimal heat and don't produce an intense enough light to burn or bleach plants when placed 6-8" from the canopy. For those trying to grow in a space where height is limited, you cannot go wrong with a CFL. These grow lights are excellent for growing short, bushy plants. If you are attempting to grow a plant from seed to harvest with a CFL, you have to use different CFL bulbs for vegging and flowering. During vegetative growth, use a CFL lamp classified as "blue" or "cool". You can also use a bulb with a rating of 6,500K. When you are ready to flip to flowering, implement a bulb classified as "warm", "red", or 2,700K.
